From the minute you enter kindergarten, you hear the words “be realistic.”
They get input into your brain and you begin to believe those words are true and you should never try anything that isn’t ‘attainable’ and ‘realistic”. Those two words are deadly. Anything worth doing well is worth doing BIG. Anything worth doing is worth doing BIG.
Women are especially susceptible to this thinking and we’re lured by the words again…don’t get too big for your britches, leave that for a man to do, you’re only a part-time wage-earner, don’t get out of whack, focus, etc. We hear the words of the naysayers and we believe them.
My advice: DON’T
If Oprah had listened, she might still be in Baltimore doing the morning show and making $100,000 per year instead of acquiring a billion dollars and changing the world. If Mother Teresa had listened, her legacy may have been in one little convent in one poor neighborhood instead of the world. If Carrie Underwood hadn’t tried out for American Idol, she might be a marketing executive writing proposals for clients while looking pretty and singing in her shower.
The point is. Go BIG. Don’t be afraid to mess up. You’re going to get your skirt dirty and your fingernails will get chipped on the way up. Some people who are supposed to love you are going to disappoint you. You’re going to disappoint some people. But don’t let that stop you.
Small is for silly little girls. Big is for strong, confident women. Be one.
